Coming to a conclusion about why people voted for Trump
It's because he's as ignorant and as short-sighted as they are. When he promised to act on that ignorance, he did so with blasts of butchered english--which also appealed to his followers, so many of whom have their own issues with basic grammer and sentence construction.
American conservatives eye things like competent English usage with suspicion. They have deep reservations about a president who has an understanding of different cultures. And they view scientific literacy as some sort of liberal con.
Trump is their guy, because he's just as stupid as they are.
