There are no philosophical (or ethical or moral) obstacles to this kind of research as far as I am concerned. Remember, the major obstacle brought up in the film "Jurassic Park" was the murky science put out by the Jeff Goldblum character. But the real villain was the attempt to commercialize it by the Attenborough character, and the inevitable attempt to criminalize it by the fat programmer dude.
