Bush thought Afghanistan was a pushover.

Iraq was where he desperately needed a victory to save face, not to mention the oil and the strategic value of the place. And the resistance was so difficult in Iraq that Afghanistan always came in second in the competition for resources, even at the very beginning when victory was within our grasp. All the way up to the very end of his administration Afghanistan was short-changed and Iraq got everything. Only now is the situation starting to turn around, the only question that remains is has the shift in attention come in time?

You know, the more I think about Bush, the more pissed off I get. Not just the stupidity of the man and the cruelty and arrogance of his advisors, but the unconscionable sycophancy of their ideological supporters.

No country remains in a position of world power forever. But I fear my country has lost a century of what could have been enlightened leadership of the community of nations. After the fall of the Soviet Empire, America could have led the world and done incalculable good for another 100 years. It would have been our Golden Age. Instead, this pathetc gang that couldn't shoot straight sent our boys on an endless Sicilian Expedition while a plague of corporate greed and economic mismanagement flared unchecked inside the walls. It is the final and inevitable result of the Reagan legacy.

I will never forgive them.
