I also left here for a while a short time back.
The result was not a sudden renaissance of reasonable discussion and appreciation of all sides. The Zone essentially became a knock-off of the Daily Kos, including, as I recall, long rants on your part on the evils of conservatism and corporatism. Politics did not fade. Politics just became one-sided and free of opposition. Apparently, not every polemic here is my fault.
It's easy to be friendly in an echo chamber.
