They simply want to keep the Ds as far away from 60 Senators any way they can.
Even if it means subverting the democratic process.

But can you imagine being beaten by Al Franken? (I personally admire the guy, like his sense of humor and his politics.) But beaten in a race for a Senate seat by Stuart? No wonder they're trying to put that off as long as possible.
