Does your computer want to "Update" every time you shut it down?

Since I upgraded to Windows 7 (I think), I always get a Windows update every time I shut the computer down. Daily, sometimes twice a day. It used to only happen once a week. What's up with this? Am I paranoid, or is the NSA sending all my keystrokes to some Big Brother in an office in Cleveland somewhere?
