Before that there was the Cold War and the VietNam War and Korean War and the let's not forget Bridges to Nowhere that Republicans are so fond of. They've been raiding SS for years to pay for all that shit. Republicans figure since they don't like the idea of Social Security, they can just loot it as they like.
And only recently has it come to pass that SS is not taking in as much as it's paying out. But that's OK, let's finance the country's deficit payments, etc. on the backs of Seniors. After all, we can afford it. We still can eat cat food.
