Kramden would have all manner of fantastic schemes which collapsed utterly and usually backfired. Reminds me of tax cuts for the wealthy creating prosperity, a 60 day invasion of Iraq, that sort of thing.
The difference is that when his screwy ideas failed he didn't claim they had worked, really, and would have worked if only given a chance and that it was all Norton's fault.
He admitted he'd been a fool.
Unlike "our" conservatives, who seem to have largely retreated to their ideological strongholds, imprevious to reason and reality, convincing themselves that the real problem is that the only information available to the ignorant masses comes from biased sources.
Such as economic indicators, battlefield casualties, foreign reporters, pink slips and foreclosure rates.
They and they alone know what is truly happening, having repeated it amongst themselves so long they believe it. The enormity of being so wrong is more than fragile egos can handle.
And Kramden had one of the world's most fragile egos. It was stronger than Conservatives.

The GOP reminds me of Ralph Kramden in "The Honeymooners".
