Space/Science — HabitableZone

Space/Science » in reply to Kepler Operational & Scaning

This is probably the most exciting mission out there in which to expect near term results

However, from there initial press releases, it seems they will be pretty conservative in so far as vetting and releasing found planet information. So, even though they should get planet detections immediately, they may not release it until ready for publication early next year. I hope I'm wrong and they flood us with bucket fulls of new planets as soon as they find them.

In any event, what will be cool is the steady transition from "hot jupiters" to smaller planets creeping toward and finally in the habitable zone. And we will finally be getting some sizable statistical samples to really start to understand the distribution of various types of solar systems.

All I know is that exoplanets fire my imagination and I don't think I'm alone.
