It is reported that British traders were able to curry favor with Shaka, the Zulu warrior king, by appealing to his vanity (he was going gray) with hair dye made of macassar oil.

I wouldn't doubt Ronald Reagan used a little chemical assistance keeping his mane dark well into his 70s, too.
