The other side of the coin
California is foundering under an apparent belief that the main purpose of state government is to pay generous wages and benefits to huge numbers of government union employees. Many other states are also reeling from the increasing costs of public benefit programs.
While private employment has taken a dive, government employment has continued to increase steadily.
There's a middle ground somewhere in between, but we're not there.
