At one time they used to be 20 and 30 years away, respectively, but
now they are much closer to reality! So see, there is progress.

You need to get off this 20-30 year away kick. I wish people would
stop saying it, too, but many of these things will happen one day and
just because it may take longer than most people want is not the fault
of the ideas themselves, but the usual human limitations.

I know the real year 2000 wasn't what I thought it was going to be
when I was a kid and it is not the fault of the flying cars, labor-saving
robots, thinking computers, and Mars colonies I was promised but the
lack of will on the part of those who could have built or funded them.
