More like "turd" or "jerk".

Mind you, I had two bachelor uncles who didn't seem to know my name. I was "scheisskipf, "schweinhunt" or "arschloch". My only other male cousin on that side of the family was always "that other bohunk" or "that other shit for brains". That cousin was rather rowdy and whenever he got into trouble I did also. "You would have been there if you'd thought of it!"

Their parents, my grandparents, were German immigrants. There were some pretty tough places in my family. My cousins kids and their kids have asked from time to time what it was like and I wrote a series of vignettes. So help me until I wrote those up I thought it was all normal.

It wasn't physically or sexually abusive, nor was there neglect, but it was a different life than my friends had. And after my parents divorced I spent a lot of time around them.

Love 'em dearly. They're dead, now, long dead. One of them was in WWII, South Pacific, the other was in a job they wouldn't let him out of. Wish they had been around to talk to sometimes. Brilliant, talented men. However, even as a kid I could understand why they never married, though there were women from time to time.
