Perhaps a big reason why they're so hell-bent on acquiring nuclear weapons is the belief that it'll give them security against a future possible CIA led coup against a democratically elected Iranian government. People have long memories, especially for those who have victimized them.

No, America's not to blame for the flaws in the Iranian election. But the big error Americans and others outside Iran are making is in assuming that becuase we view Ahmadinejad as a vile creature, therefore the Iranians must view him the same way too, and they couldn't possibly have chosen him freely as their President.

Remember when we labelled Hamas as a terrorist organization...and then they ran and won a largely free and fair Palestinian election??

What did that tell us about how well we really understand the Palestinians, versus our subjective notions about what's good for them? The same holds true here for the Iranians too.
