Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse!, Betelgeuse!!

OK. So suppose Betelgeuse DOES go supernova. Let's further assume there is no damage to earth or our civilization, just a spectacular light show that will probably go on for weeks, and even be visible in broad daylight, depending on the time of year it happens and the latitude of the observer (remember, B. is just a few degrees N of the celestial equator).

What human psychological and social effects could we expect, even if no physical damage occurs? Would wildlife or vegetation be affected by having its diurnal rhythms disturbed? Would harmless but spooky aurorae illuminate our night skies?
