The puff pieces on Mueller and Comey emphasize their resolutely apolitical stances, and that's traditionally been attractive to "both sides of the aisle". It's safe. And these days, guys like Mueller might seem like a lifeline to politicians drowning in their own hyperpartisan swamp. They may be looking to Mueller to save everybody.
