Wow.

In 1996 I spent a week in the Serengeti prior to climbing Kilimanjaro. We travelled around with a guide, 3 of us in a Land Rover.

A herd of Cape Buffalo crossed our path, the lead guy with an arrow hanging out of him. There were local poachers around who had started a fire to drive the animals. Shortly later we ran across 3 burros these folks would have used to carry the buffalo home.

I can't think of many things I'd want to face less than an angry Cape Buffalo. The guide was very wary, and the Park Rangers who showed up to check things out always had one of them looking around, AK-47 at the ready.

Those guys looked like wusses.

And we saw a couple of crocodiles that seemed to be enormous. Bigger than a large bull. One of them slid off into the water, the other just lay there, looking. We could have walked over to it. Not me, or any of us.

The guide said that a person had been eaten by one not far away when he went down to a stream to rinse off his hands.

There are a lot of ways to "go" in this world, and that sounds like one of my least favorite.

Interesting post. Thank you.
