"A New General, and a New War, in Afghanistan."
There seems to be no end to new generals and new wars. It's clear that the US has brought a knife to a gun fight, in a way. The US is trying to use guns, rockets, bullets and bombs to eliminate a culture which feels screwed over by the modern imperialism. Bringing guns to a philosophical, theosophical, cultural fight is foolish unless one obeys a rule every parent knows.
One can force certain behaviors in children as long as the parents are around. As long as a village is occupied, it is compliant. As long as the US keeps a gun to the heads of these folks, and for only that long, will "victory" seem possible.
The US needs other weapons in it's arsenal to "win", but those aren't as profitable for some industries, aren't as sexy, don't get the NRA crowd's vicarious testosterone pumping. Too bad. I think we'd rather lose a war than win it with other, less ego gratifying, weapons.
