Certainly the guy is an easily manipulated immature lowlife.
But he's operating on the national stage, and national standards should apply.
Bush was a spoiled brat who used political influence to get into pilot training and then to protect himself from having gone AWOL during wartime. Did that make him bad? Of course not, he was THEIR lowlife.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, etc. Pretty countries? Of course not. One of them is the greatest nuclear proliferator in the world, the other sponsored 9-11. But they are OUR lowlifes and not to be judged harshly.
Palin's former boyfriend was dumped when it became obvious he wouldn't fit in the new social settings of the family. He's finding some satisfaction, I'm sure, in revenge. And he's saying what we would like to hear.
He's a lowlife. But he's OUR lowlife, and therefore not to be judged. There are extenuating circumstances for all his behaviors, he's a victim of the conservative press, he's only being human, he's the only honest one in the whole damned area, et cetera and so on.
We must realize that on the grander scale he's a natural.
Now if he were simply one's neighbor, he'd be an unconscienable (sp) bastard.

One must apply national standards to a national issue.
