Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Bush and now Obama. There's an endless supply of presidents finding generals willing to ask for more kids who will die killing more Afghans, all for nothing. In the end the Taliban, the Afghans, will want their country more than will Americans.

And trillions will be spent, thousands upon thousands die. All to satisfy chickenhawks sitting at home, in the wayback lines, all to satisfy their bloodlust. The same mentality, by the way, of the backbenchers in the British Parliament trying to enforce behaviors on people thousands of miles away.

I despair of the US ever learning, we will only be limited by the exhaustion of our resources. And our enemies are absolutely glorying watching the folly. As ER has pointed out, everyone is winning except the US. Saddam's life wasn't worth one American kid's life.

I wonder how many schools, libraries and clinics could be built, stocked and manned with the $1.3 billion each B-2 bomber costs. I wonder how the contribution to peace and goodwill would compare.

But I don't wonder how the NRA folks would react.
