Huxley's Brave New World
The future won't be Orwell's nightmarish 1984 (although it certainly
could happen - just as Stalinist Russia or Nazi Germany or North Korea
right now), it will be Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, where people are
given all sorts of pleasures (within limits, of course) and society doesn't
care about anything else, especially learning from the past or caring
about people past how much pleasure, entertainment, and work they
can receive from each other.

There is also the 2006 film Idiocracy, which shows what might happen
to society in 500 years if we focus on crappy TV shows, fast food, and
hair care products.
