Maybe the Roton would have been a favorable configuration
The autogyro-type helicopter blades would provide vertical & horizontal controllability during descent along with higher thermal tolerance in case the capsule was engulfed in a cloud of burning rocket propellant on the way down. Of course this might only make alot of sense with a manned capsule.
