When we were visiting memory care centers for my father in-law, one of the stories they told us was about a woman who had been a nurse before dementia took her. They gave her a clip board with blank paper. She would do her "rounds", checking in with everyone in the ward, jotting notes, etc. It kept her calm. Like she had a purpose. My FIL was sort of the same. He was always wanting to get his long dead business partners on the phone, wanting to discuss contracts. We had to talk to his financial people to not act upon his requests without our approval. Once brilliant, he became dangerous. Did a couple of things that caused a lot of problems. Because he was tricked by grifters who took advantage of his state. It became a constant state of vigilance. People in this condition are easily manipulated.

But he wasn't president of the United States.

That's what I worry about. The people around him. How are they exploiting his ego and cognitive decline for their own goals?
