Hi All

Space.com has a cool video of Leik Myrabo's Light-craft work with some cute videos of tests with model light-craft and an old SDIO laser to pulse-drive it 40 odd feet in the air.

LightCraft Video

...very cute. Myrabo has been working on the idea, in various incarnations, for years now and lasers might be finally catching up. Eventually - and not too far off now - there'll be enough SPS power in orbit to launch orbital Light-Craft with decent payloads, potentially replacing the old style rockets. Externally energised propulsion has so many pluses even if it requires more infra-structure. Explorers might use old rockets, but true commerce between the planets will need something transformational like beamed-power.
