New Ion Engine
First the good news. NASA has developed a more powerfull, lighter weight, more reliable ion engine for deep space missions. The bad news, it requires a strong power source like nuclear for deep space missions. Given the decades of environmentalist nuclear phobia in the US, the outlook is not good.
