If only that were true.

I'd love to believe that post. There is nothing there which isn't a workaround. Unfortunately, it's just not true.

The core issue is how to incorporate those Americans who are not insured into the system now that globalization and fiscal policies have removed the "American dream" option. Class mobility has shifted downward, and health insurance isn't offered on many private sector jobs. Easlly done, every other industrialized nation has figured out a way.

The problem is that there exists a very hardcore "Tin Man" cadre out there who do not want the government to provide health insurance to those who cannot afford it and really don't care how many people suffer poor health or how many infants die as long as their demographic group is relatively unaffected.

The problem is nothing more or less than a callous indifference to the plight of one's fellow humans.

The rest of it is tapdancing, rationalization, simply nonsense. It is the same soul-sickness which is evident in the greed of the Enrons, hedge funds and wars of imperialism. HMO's have institutionalized "death panels" which maximize profits, which have passed under the "Tin Man" radar. Somehow those who are afraid of the government are not afraid of health insurance bean-counters determining life and death.

Nope. Gild that turd all you want, polish and buff it, paint clever slogans, send shock troops to carry the message, and guess what. It's greed and selfishness no matter how many camoflauge nets are strung up.

And everyone knows it.
