re: Just Curious

Here's at least one Republican health proposal.

The WHO report is dealt with <a href=here.

The main problem is that much of the ranking deals with equal and "fair" distribution, which is like ranking the quality of car ownership in the world by whether or not everybody has the same size car. A nation full of Yugos would score quite high.

The full WHO report is here. You can see how the rankings work by looking at the tables at the end. The U.S. is number 1 in responsiveness (12.5 percent of the score), but number 55 in "fairness of financial contribution" (25 percent of the score). Columbia ranks number 1 in that category. In fact, when WHO was done, only about a third of the score related to the actual health care delivered, and about two-thirds was related to how "socialized" the health care was.

Lee already covered what competition is like when one "competitor" has a gun. If Waxman's attack on the insurance companies wasn't a big enough clue as to how this would go, I don't know what else you'd need.
