Ice thickness is also routinely measured by submarines on patrol under the ice.

But like snowmobile-towed GPR's, this data is patchy and incomplete, and isn't available on a daily basis.

Who knows, maybe Congress will direct NOAA, NASA and EPA to launch a satellite to provide these measurements on a more regular basis. 8)
