The economy is still in good shape

which ensures the bulk of the American electorate will remain complacent and uninterested in what is going on in Washington.

The GOP controls the government, so the only thing that can stop the nation's slide into all-out fascism is if enough Republicans decide that supporting Trump and his constituency at all costs is too high a price to pay to abolish Obamacare, cut corporate taxes, emasculate EPA and terminate entitlements.

I'm not too optimistic that is going to happen. This crowd is not known for thinking in the long term. Their attention is fixed on the next profit-and-loss statement. If the economy doesn't collapse (or a military disaster occurs) and the Right can maintain their majority after the mid-terms, we will be stuck with Trump, or someone like him, forever.

The fascists are now in their "consolidation of power" phase. They have the majority in the government, and the full support of the church and business/industrial and banking/financial sectors. They are now systematically dismantling all the institutions than can potentially stand in their way; the courts, unions, universities, press, the scientific establishment, the arts, the security services, and the civil administration and bureaucracy. In other words, what Conservatives call "The Deep State". And I think soon you're going to see them start courting the armed forces.

If you need a detailed roadmap on just how they will go about this, I recommend W.L. Shirer's "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich", Book Two: Triumph and Consolidation.
