Naaaah! I don't think the universe gives a shit whether we live or die.
Actually, I don't think the universe is even aware we're here. In fact, I don't think the universe is aware of itself, or of anything else, for that matter.

We are the ONLY thing that matters. And we only matter to us, for a very short period of time. But Jesus, isn't that enough?

You see, if my soul has existed since the beginning of time and I don't remember any of it, or if my soul will last forever but it won't remember itself as it is now, what good does that do me? I know the carbon in my body was created in a stellar interior and scattered into space by a dying star, but that knowledge does me no good at all. You see, that's the point all the religions miss. If you can't remember your own immortality, it is of no value to you whatsoever. Perhaps the universe can utilize what I've learned or remember, but I really don't care. I won't be there.
