Life is a property of the universe. An element if you will. Hard to define scientifically but an incontrovertible fact. We are here and so are countless other life forms. Yes, life is fragile and individual life seems entirely irrelevant in a universe where living creatures must kill and consume other living creatures to survive. But we are the universe too, and we care about life, thus the universe cares about life through us. Carl Sagan said we are the way that the universe knows itself. Why we exist and why there is something instead of nothing is the great mystery.
There are a lot of really weird things happening on the quantum level. Effect before cause, entanglement, and so on. According to quantum mechanics information is indestructible, and if our consciousness exists on a quantum level, which I suspect it does, then who knows how much survives death? If nothing does, then you are correct, it is enough. Death is not too great a price to pay for the gift of having lived and loved.
