The REAL reason you don't like 'liberal distortions' is that liberals want to take your tax dollars and use them to help people you don't think deserve to be helped.

And you know, that's a perfectly understandable attitude. Even if you don't agree with it, or object to it on moral grounds, it is still defensible. And lets admit it, everyone, even those of the most bleeding heart persuasion, share that feeling to some extent.

No, what makes conservatives contemptible is that they can't admit this perfectly reasonable conviction to anyone else, not even to themselves.

Listen to yourself, its 'honest people' who 'grow tired' of 'liberal distortions'. This implies only liberals distort and only conservatives are honest. Do you even have any idea of how self-serving and patronizing that short statement is? Even the simplest linguistic analysis of the one sentence you present as rebuttal immediately displays your bias and your self-deception.
And you don't even realize it.

You refuse to admit that the crack about Mexicans was precisely what Trump said and exactly what he meant and expected to be understood; even though he hastily added a quick qualifier so it wouldn't sound really bigoted and barbaric. Conservatives will quickly seize on that, but deep down they know the entire Trump narrative was designed to appeal to Conservative bigots and aimed directly at them. At least the real racists can be forgiven as ignorant or stupid or simply unwitting victims of their own racist culture. But Trump knows exactly what he's doing and conservatives who are not racists who find comfort and meaning in his words do too. They simply assume liberals are too stupid to see through it, and they are outraged to learn that they do.

Does this mean Trump is a racist? No, for all I know he may not have a racist bone in his body. But if he's not a racist he's much worse, because he is seeking out and justifying those who are in order to promote his own interests. His racism is not the result of conviction or belief, its calculated and deliberate and mercenary.

That's why conservatives hate liberals. Its not because they have different ideas about how much in the way of government resources should be provided to the poor or unfortunate, or because they feel differently about how much businesses should be regulated. Like I said, those are lines we all draw, we just draw them in different places. No, cons hate libs because the latter see through their self-delusion, and gleefully point it out to them. Nobody enjoys getting busted. And nobody likes being outed.
