Maybe it is being deliberately cultivated and propagated, for commercial, military or political purposes.

Maybe this is the singularity. Its not hardware or software, those are just the matrix, the substrate where it lives. Maybe it is a self-reproducing form of data. The term "virus" may be a lot more accurate than we realize.
