I think schadenfreude would be small-minded when the misfortune is unconnected to the actions of the Evil Person. It would be petty to rejoice if Donald Trump was, say, hit by a car.
But when the misfortune is so delightfully the consequence of the evil actions--when evil boomerangs on the Evil Person--then you have no choice but to invoke the Evil Person Clause. This is the very thing the Clause was made for.
