"For of all sad words of tongue or pen, The saddest are these: 'It might have been!'"
Over 230,000 lives lost, families devastated, millions of livelihoods destroyed- all because a minority of morons believed a reality show con-man- simply because he normalized their bigotry.
It never HAD to be this way... but it is what the minority of Americans inflicted on the whole.
Tonight is about survival of our nation, preserving what it might have been. We never lived up to the full potential of our ideals, but it could at least be said we tried to.
Will we continue to strive to be better, or will we surrender to the ugly forces that have always been there- waiting for their moment?
That is what is on the ballot today.
Will we surrender to the minority that is our very lowest common denominator- and let that minority sell out the dreams of all the Americans that came before? Those that struggled, fought and died to move America closer to it's ideal.
The barbarians are at our gate... will we fight, or will we invite them in to pillage?
