Sedimentary, my dear Watson.

In Florida, the railroad tracks are laid on top of a bed of granite rocks about half the size of a clenched fist. There is no igneous rock in Florida, the granite must have been shipped in from out-of-state, probably Georgia. It looks like the same stuff Stone Mountain near Atlanta is made of.

Millions of years from now, when all traces of our civilization will have vanished, whatever geologists are studying the area previously known as Florida will find these long linear features of igneous material, some stretching uninterrupted for hundreds of miles, all in the sands, clays and other deposits of the state. Most will be eroded, scattered, or otherwise disturbed by normal geological processes, but no doubt some will survive, some buried deep underground under layers of sediment.

All traces of the original railroad, the rails, spikes and ties will have vanished, but some of that granite roadbed will remain.
