Yeah, when I first saw Captain Jack on that crossover Dr. Who episode, he seemed like a jolly nice fellow, even if, even then, he did have that habit of going around kissing everybody.
I'd have to call him a complex character, even tortured, so my calling him a "monster" may be too one-dimensional. I'm not sure where you can sample more recent episodes to give him another chance--doesn't show up on hulu/xfinity or bbcamerica.com. But if comes around on cable, give it a try.
