The condition has many aspects: a community of fellow believers (like religion), iconography (memes), ritual (take this much supplement at this time of day), grifting (throw money in the basket and you'll be fine), cultish behavior (don't doubt our prophet), and targeted anger / hate towards an individual-group-race-creed.
All of that. But it is also simple yet complex. In the face of chaos, there simply must be a big plan that ties it all together. It might be aliens or shadowy Illuminati, whoever, but they are behind it all.
Then there is the riddle solving. That is the most impressive aspect of the Q crap. They only gave "breadcrumbs," then let the snowball roll downhill and watch the avalanche. Internet sleuths do the rest. One sentence spawns ten thousand from all over social media. Do your research, right? Umberto Eco talked about this, and that was pre-internet. People like to solves riddles and then gloat about their, typically easily debunked, finds. Like when someone posted proof of chemtrail planes full of tanks here, and it was quickly shown that they were from how aircraft were tested for weight distribution.
But that didn't change their view. They just kept hunting for proof. I used to find it amusing but it has now been weaponized.
