And- in a cruel twist- the poor often have to commute further than the more affluent- the jobs are in the cities, but the cost of housing in the cites are such that unless you are well off, you can't live in the cities.
So, in general, higher gas prices disproportionately impact those that can least afford it.
And while Biden has no control over gas prices, you can be damn sure that he will get the blame- increasing the chances that we will have a Trump or Desantis in charge of dismantling our democracy in 3 years.
So yeah... LOTS of reasons to care about the gas prices.
It is not impacting me personally- yet... my car can get me to work and back without using any gas... but the follow on damage, the backlash, will impact us all...
Food prices are already up, and making the costs of transportation higher will not help- again, disproportionately impacting those who can afford it least.
The war in Ukraine will drive food cost higher still...
It is the perfect storm....
