Obama scared the shit out of them. He was elected once, but they thought that might be a fluke. But then he was elected again...and they realized that...the jig is up!
The last, final bastion of hegemony was overrun. They knew they might get one of their own elected again, as they did with Trump using an electoral college technicality, but they realized that victory could no longer be guaranteed. The Nazification of America began with Trump, but he really didn't cause it. It was the realization that there were more Obamas in their future that mobilized the Right to total war.
