In 2016 Trump was an unknown commodity. People were willing to take a chance on him. The election has now fundamentally changed in that Harris is the unknown commodity and Trump is a former president whose psychotic and chaotic roller coaster of an administration is still fairly fresh in the public's minds.
I understand your concerns about the timing of trying to break social barriers, and that is why I would definitely not want to see Harris pick Buttigieg for VP.
But I think she will inspire the youth vote and bring the women and black vote in huge numbers. She will have the full backing of democrats and has a good chance of grabbing a piece of the anti-Trump GOP voters. She won't have the Gaza War stigma that was dragging down Biden. She's a symbol of the pro choice movement. And as Tony mentioned, the myogynists and racists are already firmly in the Trump camp anyway.
There are a lot of positives and we have a lot more hope now than we did 2 days ago.
