You may be right
If it makes people not want to use the product or service, it will hurt the companies doing it in the marketplace. You, ER, myself, the author of the article in the OP, and many many others are examples of potential customers turned off by the way some companies do things. We weigh the pros and cons and make our economic decisions accordingly. If companies are losing their customers and still fail to change their ways, they go out of business. Something new and better will take its place.
