He has to know his claims are bullshit, unless he is mentally ill- MOST scientists would be horrified at the idea of advocating- without proof- an idea that turns out to be bullshit... but he gets reinforcement by the popular press leaping on all of his bullshit claims... ALL of his colleagues know he is spouting bullshit- but they won't get even a paragraph in these wild stories...

He is playing the media, and making wild claims BECAUSE they will get press. Now, I can say the PR department of various organizations tends to exaggerate - I have had it happen to me in press releases from NASA and a national lab... but he has done interviews intentionally promulgating his bullshit... encouraging the misinterpretation of data.

He is a person that should be removed from the science community- kicked out of Harvard, only allowed to publish after EXTENSIVE peer review...

But he gets press coverage which is mistaken by many as validation of his deranged claims.
