I'm not talking about the ability to quickly fire off great-sounding "duckspeak" in response to a question (a common tactic by politicians), but to deliver real information. To actually answer a question instead of deflecting it.
And yes, knowledge isn't enough by itself in politics. Gingrich knows his stuff, but doesn't do well in national politics. I could think of worse people as President, but he'd be eaten alive in the arena beforehand.
