Spending some time with my sister and brother-in-law, and enjoying a chance to relax and read.
Noticed, my bro-in-law has an amazing science fiction collection, and decided to re-read the Heinlein ‘juveniles’. (first re-reading for me)
Wow,…so far, even better than the first time, when I was 12-14.
My first pick was ‘Red Planet’.
I’d completely forgotten about ‘Willis’, and the quasi-prequel relation to SIASL.
Even though the story takes place on a pre-Mariner, Lowellian Mars, that never was or will be, it epitomizes my finest notion of what science fiction is all about.
Nothing, captures the imagination so. Simple, pure adventure. Camaraderie, coming of age, and rebellion.
I wish I had a river, I could skate away on.
Skate a thousand miles
