Yeah, it's a little lame. I think you might be deleting the vertical bar by accident; it's necessary to separate the address and the legend. The template produced by the little link button is so simple you might do better just typing it from scratch. All you have to remember is that it's inside square brackets, the address comes first then the legend, separated by the vertical bar:
