I tested it, and you're right. Damn. Specifically, WordPress exposes commenters' email addresses and IP numbers to you when you edit your own post.
That's stupid and unacceptable. I'm sorry. I'll close that hole right away.
And you're right, too, that Bowser sure as hell would have had a cow!
On the plus side, I checked, and that information doesn't leak out to anyone not logged in. Search engines have no access to it. The leakage internally is limited to just a few people at a time, though of course over time that'll ensnare most of us.
