Re: Superheroes

Most of the comics I read are from "independents" like Dark Horse and others. I don't have that much from DC or Marvel.

Going down my graphic novel collection shelves and looking at some of the highlights:

Amelia Rules, Amulet, Angel, Asterix, Astro City, some Batman, Battle Angel Alita, Blacksaad, Bone, Boneyard, Books of Magic, B.P.R.D.

Buffy, Castle Waiting, Conan collections, Concrete, Courtney Crumrin, Dirty Pair, Elephantmen, Elfquest, Empowered, Fables, Freak Brothers, Girl Genius, Goon,

Hellboy, Jack of Fables, my Jack Jackson "Texas" collection, Messner's "Journey," League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Liberty Meadows, the Little Orphan Annie collections,

Love and Capes, Lucifer, Mage, Magnus Robot Fighter (the old one), Miracleman, Mouse Guard, Nausicaa, Nexus, Penny Arcade, Powers, PS238,

RASL, Sandman, Scary Godmother, Serenity, some Star Wars, Starstruck, Donna Barr's "Stinz" books, some Superman, Swamp Thing,

Tick, Tintin, Top 10, Transmetropolitan, Usagi, V for Vendetta, Watchmen.

I have Jack Kirby's old stuff in the bound collections, everything by Doug TenApel, the complete Eisner Spirit collection (among other Eisner work), all of the Gladstone Carl Barks duck series.

Again, just the highlights. And I don't collect anything I wouldn't recommend.

My wife doesn't like comics at all. It's not the content, it's the format. She is a voracious reader, but doesn't work well with the sequential picture/text combination. It's kind of like being tone deaf.
