More good news about AI

Sam Altman: ‘I No Longer Think We’re Gonna Be Able to Just Patch All the Bugs

More and more the messaging coming from the AI companies seems to be along the lines of:

"This thing that we are creating, that we are spending 100's of billions of dollars on and going into debt to make a reality ... this thing is incredibly dangerous. In our efforts to bring about this thing and to bring it into everyone's daily life we have realized that it is so powerful that we cannot possibly know just how dangerous it is. The events where it has demonstrated that it is beyond our ability to control it have shown that it can be extremely damaging, and we plan to spend 100's of billions, trillions, to continue to make this immensely dangerous uncontrollable thing VASTLY more powerful and ubiquitous.

All indications at this point are making it abundantly clear that if we don't find a way to make this thing safer then you, your family, all that you hold dear- the entire human race is jeopardy of being extinguished. So somebody really needs to work on the incredibly difficult and complicated task of making this thing safe so we don't become extinct....

AAAANYHOO...we will be releasing THING 7.0 next week, it is twice as powerful as THING 6.0, so it is presumably at least twice as existentially dangerous..."

Well, at least the government is on top of this and has the best people working on policy to ensure that AI development is done in a way that prioritizes safety and responsible resea.... wait, here we go, this just in from the White House- no doubt a comprehensive plan to ensure the safe development of AI... let us just see what measures they are announcing, shall we?

USHERING IN SUPER INTELLIGENCE: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to replace the term “Artificial Intelligence” (“AI”) with “Super Intelligence” (“SI”) in the executive branch to recognize the continuously advancing technological frontier and the limitless promise it offers the American people.

The Order directs all departments and agencies to use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents, and non-statutory documents within the executive branch and to no longer acknowledge the terms “Artificial Intelligence” or “AI”.
The Order directs the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to propose a Federal definition of “Super Intelligence” and “SI” that reflects the state of this extraordinary frontier technology and identify any additional executive action necessary to implement the proposed definition.

Ah...ok... well... never mind, it would seem we are completely fucked...
