If ever there was a classic laboratory experiment on socialism vs. capitalism, North and South Korea would be it*. All the variables are the same: same nation, same people, same culture...just one critical difference in how society is organized. The results are there for everyone to see, except those with a mental block that won't be moved.
And now South Korea appears to be moving away from an authoritarian mixed economy and closer to pure capitalism, which is great. We'll see how it goes.
And now, an interesting move from that ideal socialist state, Sweden:
...Volvo also moved its entire global excavator operation out of pricey Sweden to lower-wage Korea. Last year, Volvo Construction Equipment Korea posted a $42.3 million profit on $415 million in sales.
Hey, profits don't suck, even in Sweden.
*Okay, so there were also North and South Vietnam and East and West Germany. The results were still the same.
